Hardware & Gateway Setup

Android Gateway Node Setup

How to configure any spare or dedicated Android phone into a high-availability, 24/7 background SMS gateway node.

Hardware Requirements

Android OS

Android 8.0 (Oreo) or higher. Supports Android 14 and 15.

SIM Configuration

Single or Dual physical SIM, or physical SIM + eSIM.

Network

Stable Wi-Fi or 4G/5G mobile data for WebSocket connectivity.

Step-by-Step Configuration

1

Download & Install the APK

Download the official SmsNova Android Gateway APK (build 2.4.0, ~3.8MB) from your dashboard or releases. Grant the required Android runtime permissions:

  • SEND_SMS & READ_PHONE_STATE (Allows sending outgoing messages via SIM 1 / SIM 2)
  • RECEIVE_SMS & READ_SMS (Required for incoming payment verification and regex querying)
  • CAMERA (Required only once for pairing QR scan)
2

Pair via Dynamic QR Code

Open the SmsNova app and tap "Scan QR Code". Point the phone camera at your dashboard screen. The app decodes the encrypted payload and establishes an authenticated, persistent WebSocket connection (wss://sms.ullass.com/ws).

Tip: You can test the interactive camera scanning simulation on our Live QR Demo.
3

Bypass Battery Optimization (Critical)

To guarantee that Android does not put the SMS relay background service to sleep when the screen turns off:

Settings → Apps → SmsNova Gateway → Battery → Select "Unrestricted"
4

Configure Smart SIM Prefix Routing

If your phone has Dual SIMs, you can configure automatic operator routing in the app settings:

SIM 1 (Grameenphone)Routes prefixes: 017, 013 (On-net free bundle)
SIM 2 (Banglalink)Routes prefixes: 019, 014 (On-net free bundle)
